Dense storage for modern movies and games. By:
I feel like the higher the raw data, the more percentage is unavailable out of the box. Fresh in my NAS as direct drive, 8.85 GB available. That said, it's still the most cost effective and highly dense storage you can get at the moment (until the 12s and 14s drop a bit more in price).I've noticed that 4k at a bitrate similar to Blurays is much, much better than the lower rates you get over streaming. These large drives make storing such content feasible - and well worth it, in my opinion.
Works well, reliable (at least so far) By:
My third 8TB Iron Wolf, use them mainly for video storage. Not the fastest of course, they're not designed to be. But as reliable back up and storage devices and NAS they work great. have been using them for about 18 months, no problems at all,

Decent Drives By:
Functioning as expected
WD Always By:
I've never been let down by Western Digital. I actually have some 6 yr old drives still banging away as they should. In the past 15 years I had one return and it was rather painless. To avoid the "religious wars" of hard drives, particularly between Seagate and Western Digital, either will perform well for you. Yes, there are failures, and yes there have been some runs of both manufacturers that can let you down. On balance, I've been fortunate by standardizing on WD.
10TB is enough room! By:
For pretty much anything you like, this drive is versatile! I've enjoyed having no fear of running out of capacity on my hard drive anymore. If you're looking for space its a great drive and at 7200 RPM it gets the job done quick!

Perfect Drives For NAS and Backup By:
I have ten of these 8TB drives in a ZFS pool in my FreeNAS server. I also have 3 of them as part of my backup solution and they hold up well. They are the fastest spinning platter drives made for a NAS solution I have ever used. Way faster than the Western Digitial Red drives these replaced.
Five Stars By:
Awesome drive. Never had one fail on me yet.
Solid drives for cheap, over 9 months under 24/7 load and no failures or issues. By:
I purchased five of these for my Ubuntu media server and installed RAIDZ2 on them without any issues. They've been under 24/7 load for about 9 months and I haven't had any failures or issues.
So far so good. By:
I have a pair of these in a Synology NAS and they perform well .
Last longer for cameras By:
I used it for my server to record camerasIts gr8
FAST Drives! By:
I setup two of these 4TB as a RAID 0. Throughput is awesome at 400MB/s and the drives are relatively quiet. So far I’m really pleased with their performance.
A very solid drive designed for a NAS By:
The HGST drives are all outstanding and this one is designed for use in a NAS. It works great.Of course it will be a long time before I have enough information to give a definitive opinion but they do well at Backblaze, a company that does cloud storage.
Five Stars By:
Works like a charm.
Great deal, great drives. By:
Love these things! Upgraded my NAS solution and stocked the new unit with these drives. These are FAST drives, run (relatively) cool (mine average a running working temp of 105F in the Synology unit) and while not noisy, are louder than some other, slower, lower-duty drives I have used. I only regret not having the funds free to buy the 8TB or 10TB versions of this drive, as I am already nearing 70% full on my new NAS.The higher spindle speed and big cache makes these things out-perform other drives in class and absolutely smash the previous generations of drives. These are slightly heavier than their desktop brothers, and that is how it should be for NAS/Enterprise Storage drives. They are built for 24/7 operation with high read/write cycles, and they deliver. The previous NAS was built with the fore-runner of these drives, and even after six years of 24/7 high-traffic runs, remain completely sound, error-free and ready to go.
Fast, reliable, cheap. I won't buy any other brand now. (And I do this for a living) By:
I've been burned by enough dead HDDs (especially Seagate 3.5" 3TB's) that I've moved to WD and HGST exclusively where possible. All of the on-line analysis, like Backblaze's (Google it), indicate that these are more reliable than most so I'm hopeful. I knew it would be faster than the 5900RPM model it replaced but I'm surprised how much faster when I tested it before installation. Once added to the file server I notice far fewer IOwaits by the RAID subsystem. Granted the old drive was failing, but even when new the Seagates caused more waiting than the WDs. (Yes, I do this for a living, is it that obvious?)Pro tip: If you're building a file server make sure to use double-parity RAID so that you can lose any *two* disks without data loss. While my server was resilvering onto this drive another of the Seagates fell off the planet. Fortunately, the resilvering completed without issue and I lost nothing. (I also have two complete on-site backups, and another off-site so even if all of the drives released their magic smoke I wouldn't have lost anything other than the time required to rebuild the machine.) That second failed Seagate has been replaced with another HGST and resilvering that one went off without a hitch. Remember: Storage is cheap and data is expensive. For the price, this is an excellent drive and I'm almost hoping the remaining 3TB Seagates die soon so I'll have reason to replace them - and increase my usable storage in the process.
